About Us

Michael Hommel • Founder and President

“My vision of the perfect outdoor living space incorporates elements of water and fire with formal hardscape features and setting them against the beautiful flora of plants and trees.”

Michael is the founding father of Designs By Sundown. He never imagined that a hobby of installing sprinkler systems 25 years ago would evolve into a nationally recognized and award-winning landscape firm. Michael is a Colorado native and still resides in Littleton, just miles from the home he grew up in. He graduated from Colorado State University with aspirations of joining the FBI but a hiring freeze changed his career path for good. Michael serves on the Board of the South Metro Denver’s Chamber of Commerce and was inducted as a “Trailblazer” for the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) in 2008. Under his leadership, Designs By Sundown has grown from just two employees in 1985 to more than 100 today. The company has been presented with more than 50 awards for their ethical business practices as well as landscaping excellence.

Michael is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys playing hockey, snowmobiling, waterskiing and snowboarding. He thanks his wife, Kiki, and their four children for all their support and encouragement through the years.

Jereme Pohill • Construction Manager

“I love to see our design staff push the envelope. The final product we deliver is often a work of art. The experience and reward are shared by our clients as well as our installation staff!

Jereme began his landscape career during summers while attending DePaul University. He came to Designs By Sundown in 2003 with nearly 10 years of experience in high-end residential construction. He credits much of his creative skills to his years working with landscape architect, Martin Mosko. Jereme began as a construction foreman before taking over as the construction manager in 2008.

Jereme’s installations have won numerous awards and have been featured in numerous publications. His ability to balance creativity with great business sense allows him to manage a group always looking to outdo itself. Jereme’s world travels continue to open his eyes to new ideas and perspectives.

Most evenings after a long day at work, you can find him peddling his road bike around our beautiful foothills.
